Numbers of components issued
The total number of blood components issued from the transfusion services of the UK continues to decrease. Table 3
shows data from 1999-2007, demonstrating a steady decrease in issues of red cells from UK Blood Services and resulting in a total decrease of 18% over 7 years. FFP issues have decreased by 16% over the same period. Platelet usage has increased by just 2%, whereas cryoprecipitate usage has increased by 24%.
